The Academy Program is a new program that we are starting with the U9 girls and will be the key to our programs ongoing success. We are committed to the development of our players love for the game and development as a player. Our program is different than other clubs in the area, in the fact that we believe in more training than playing of games at these age groups. We also want to work with Rec teams not against them; instead, this is an avenue for players to be introduced to skill development at the next level. We do not believe that players in these age groups should have to try-out, instead be offered the opportunity to receive training at this level along with a few competitions encouraging the player to be creative, to make mistakes with the ball without fear. This is how young players become confident with the ball and develop their skills
The Academy Program is strictly a player’s development program. The Academy’s philosophy is one of playing to learn and minimizing the intense pressure to win. This philosophy transcends every training session and match. The Academy coaching staff is trained to provide this introduction to select soccer in an environment conducive to Learning and having Fun!
The goals for the WVSC U9 Academy program are FUN, TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT and SPORTSMANSHIP. FUN comes first, because when children enjoy soccer, learning takes care of itself – they want to come back for “more.” TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT is vital, for without basic skills, players are limited in their athletic expression and their enjoyment of soccer is reduced. We will aims to instill a solid technical base in each player, so that they are ready for U12 travel soccer. Finally, SPORTSMANSHIP is crucial. Soccer is a team sport, so players must absorb the basic elements of SPORTSMANSHIP: teamwork, cooperation, listening, basic work ethic, and attention to instruction. Even if a player does not continue with soccer, these elements of SPORTSMANSHIP will serve them well in school, work and life we encourage players to attend and see if U9 Girls Academy is for you.
